Young Entrepreneurs shouted “What recession” as they took their wares to Wembley Sunday Market

Young entrepreneurs from eight schools across North and West London put their business skills to action on February 7th by participating in the Wembley Sunday Market, thanks to Young Enterprise London and the support of Wendy Fair Markets.
Aged 15 to 19, the students from Harrow, Brent, Hillingdon, Watford and Elstree, are taking part in the Young Enterprise Company Programme to gain first-hand experience of running a business. Over the course of the school ye

ar they create and run their own company, electing a board of directors, raising share capital, marketing, financing and then selling their products and services in their communities.
Michele McKendry, Director, Young Enterprise London, says: "Our research shows that participants of the Young Enterprise Company Programme are more passionate than their peers about their jobs, twice as likely to go on to become entrepreneurs, and more likely to get involved in voluntary work.“
“Trading at a Market is a good opportunity for these young people to 'test the market' with their products and improve their Marketing and selling skills and also how to interact with a wide range of people. There is a lot to be learned here and I am pleased to be able to support these budding entrepreneurs, “says Nick Hobday, owner of Wendy Fair Markets.
The event seems to have been very successful: The products on offer were varied in both physically characteristics and price and not only did the companies successfully trade their wares, but also the students experienced first hand appreciation of the complexity of successful business – preparation being key, including aspects such as advertising; point of sale and determining suitability of audience to the product and unit price.
Special mentions must go to LSC Manufacturer (brilliant effort + sales volume); JFS Plugin Solutions (perseverance) and Canvas Plan John Lyons (sales)
